About J. Lynn Fraser
I view my work as an editor and a writer as a natural continuation of a childhood fascination with words and word play. Today, with over thirty years of experience, I provide discreet writing and editing services for nonprofit organizations, crown corporations, government, private business, corporations, research institutes, and university researchers.

The university researchers I work with include Research Deans, Canada Research Chairs, Department Chairs, and Distinguished Professors. My clients are from a variety of departments such as Engineering, Technology, Earth Sciences, Architecture, Humanities, Geography, Gerontology, Aging, and Medicine.
While pursuing my Master’s in Environmental Studies, my Honours B.A. with distinction in Psychology, and my Honours B.A. in Sociology, I took English courses in addition to courses on the culture, philosophy, and psychology of language and cognition. After university I took courses in, for example, law, publishing, editing, and EDI micro-courses.

Topics I have covered in my writing include architecture, art, cybercrime, mortgage fraud, greenhouses, climate change and sustainability. I have also written company profiles and professionals’ biographies.

Articles I have written, now numbering in the hundreds, have appeared in national and international magazines and newspapers such as the Canadian Medical Association Journal, Frame (Netherlands), Globe and Mail, Hinge (Hong Kong), Toronto Star, Canadian Art, Azure, Canadian House and Home, Ceramic Review (UK), Profit, Canadian Management Association, Mortgage Journal, Style at Home, and Greenhouse Canada.

It is my honour to have been nominated for two national magazine awards: a Kenneth R. Wilson magazine award for business writing, and a Canadian Press best feature award.
My article, “Legislating safety - a contentious claim: Bill C-45 is redefining the criminal liability of organizations of all descriptions…” (CMA management, 78:30-2), is recommended by Canada’s Library of Parliament, LEGISinfo, as “Further Reading” on the Westray mining incident and Bill C-45: An Act to amend the Criminal Code (criminal liability of organizations) (https://www.parl.ca/LegisInfo/en/bill/37-2/c-45?view=about).

I am also an author. I wrote Buying Power (published by Thomson Canada), a book on the history of money, to encourage children’s interest in reading.

I understand the processes involved with research projects. While in university I was a junior member of nearly a dozen research teams. The findings of one research study, where I was a research assistant, was featured on the cover of Time magazine.

My editing work includes grants (such as NSERC, SSHRC, CIHR, CFI), reports, books and book chapters, scholarly journal articles, teaching and research statements, dissertations, and academic applications. The grants that I have contributed my skills to, over 100 in total, have a high success rate. I also support researchers with their journal submissions (over 150 in total). For the authors and editors of over thirty books I have provided project management, indexing, copy editing, proofreading, and glossary creation services.

The topics I have covered in my editing include nuclear storage, electric vehicles, devices to aid physically challenged children, net zero policies, mining, housing, women, finance, construction materials, and aging.

What has been a constant in my work as an editor and writer is my love of words, text, research, and learning. The most rewarding aspect of my work is ensuring that clients' projects reach their full potential.
